This Christmas I will take you through the churches of my native city, also known as the city of Joy. Yes, Christmas has an archetypal charm in the old city of Kolkata and its surrounding. Kolkata and its surroundings witnessed different colonial settlements and hence had a diverse effect on its culture, people and religion. Irrespective of the religion Christmas is celebrated here as a maas festival where every household celebrates the occasion ‘Borodin’ in their own way. Not delving much into the type of festivities, I take you through a tour of churches in Kolkata this Christmas.

Tis Christmas time again and the aroma of Christmas cakes is all around. Christmas trees, stars, bells and gifts have already made their way to their respective destinations. The joy of festivity is all around as the world has begun to celebrate the season with Christmas followed by the new year in a week. So I take this opportunity of Christmas to celebrate it in my own way as I tour you through a few churches of Pune through this post.

Christmas in Kolkata

HO HO HO!” Santa is in town – the Christmas season, the holiday reason and the celebration is around. The annual, worldwide celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, followed by the New Year. As date varies according to the Eastern and Western Churches so do the celebration in different parts of the World. It varies depending on the region, religion, ethnicity and cultural background of the people. Here I am with the Christmas or the ‘Boro Din’ celebration from my native city of Kolkata.
